For hoteliers and gastronomes, life’s most wonderful day takes place time after time.

- So it’s good when the porcelain they have available flexibly matches the varied needs of such occasions.
Goto first page
‘Whether for weddings or special birthday celebrations, it is well worth taking a look at the most important protagonists of the table setting to be able to fulfil the specific wishes of the guests.’

Particularly in the case of wedding or special birthdays, guests have their own special ideas and expectations. They always feel especially well catered for when the venue realises their wishes to perfection. This begins with the room and the cuisine, and continues through to decorations and the presentation of the food that is served. Here, plates are definitely the most important protagonists, and the true highlights of every table setting.

As no two plates are the same, and flatware comes in a wide variety of different forms and functions, we would like to introduce you to several examples from our range of options and their functions. Although the choice of a certain porcelain is not necessarily a pledge of eternal love, it is, of course, perfect when the decision does endure for many years.

Goto first page
The days when plates were exclusively round have been over for quite some time. Today, flatware is encountered in an almost infinite variety of different shapes and styles: round, oval, rectangular or abstract – all there to pick and choose.

Goto first page
This is how chefs take advantage of the creative scope created by the multifunctional character of individual shapes and styles – after all, even a soup plate is only a deep plate that is equally suitable for the presentation of main courses.

Thanks to the Tafelstern modular system, pieces from vastly different collections can be freely combined to create uniquely dramatized table landscapes and scenarios.

Comprises a deeper centre – the well – and a flat, raised edge: the rim.

As plates with moderately wide or broad rims are easier to grip and carry, they are much more convenient for service personnel.

If used on a buffet, the ideal grip characteristics of their rims ensure that guests can carry their buffet selections safely back to their places.

Goto first page
Rims really come into their own when used as a stage for decorative extras – these can be small portions of food, herbs or spices, served in small, matching bowls.

A well and a small, upturned edge are the characteristic features of coupe plates. As they have no rim, they offer a more generously sized inner surface for the presentation of adventurous compositions.

Table setting always begins with the underplate. These are not dining plates – they serve as a placeholder for the courses to follow and are set approximately one centimetre from the edge of the table. Underplates have a width or diameter of at least 30 centimetres and must always be at least two centimetres larger than the menu plates that are placed on them. These are followed by plates or bowls for starters or soups.

Takes the starring role in every menu and is also known by many other names: dinner plate, main course plate or meat plate. There are virtually no limits to its shape and size. It is usually available in classic sizes from 26 to 29 cm.

Despite its name, the breakfast plate can be used at any time of the day: for instance as a plate for cake, pastries or desserts. It is smaller than the dinner plate or dining plate.

It is round, and generally has a diameter of 20 to 23 cm.

Saucers, a type of small, flat dishware, are not only for use with cups, they may also be placed under soup bowls, small dishes or other similar pieces. This ensures that the course is elegantly served, and has the beneficial side-effect of preventing drops of food soiling the tablecloth.

Goto first page
It is significantly smaller than a dining plate or breakfast plate (ø 15-17 cm), and brings a refined dash of luxury to every festive table setting.

When setting the table, it is always positioned at the top left and – true to its name – is used for bread.

Goto first page
Depth is the characteristic feature of the soup plate, and its deep well offers ample room for soups and co. The classical soup plate has a diameter of 24 cm. Larger (e.g. 28 cm) and deeper plates are popular favourites for serving pasta dishes or salads.

They are often larger than their colleagues, the plates, and frequently rectangular in form. They are extremely versatile – for example for attractively serving a whole fish without parts of it overhanging the edges at the left and right.

Whether in a table setting as an alternative to a plate, as a serving- and presentation platter on a buffet or for the presentation of smaller bowls – platters are versatile all-rounders and specialists for setting the stage for all kinds of culinary creations.

Goto first page
naturally has nothing to do with choosing porcelain.

Even though the quality of Tafelstern porcelain will fulfil its promise and stay at your side for a very long time.
Goto first page
A creative mix & match in the presentation of porcelain can also be created by the use of decors.

They add splashes of colour to the scene or set accents in pure white.
Goto first page
For a wedding, decors must be as elegant as the bride. All white decors with fascinating haptic elements bring excitement to the table.

At a wedding, everything must be perfect. All the details are planned months in advance. This naturally includes a perfect wedding table. In this case, decorated porcelain can play a role as part of the festive decorations. For wedding decorations, refined and elegant decorations of the finest quality, fine lacy motifs, looks with a semi-matt pearly sheen in pure white or pastel shades predominate, perhaps also with a few accents in silver or gold.

After all, the decors and finery must be as elegant as the bride. The wedding guests also attend the occasion in their best suits and dresses and wear their most precious jewellery. This can be reflected in the table decorations, for example by the equally elegant and refined decor worn by the porcelain.
The range of these decors is simply enormous.

In essence, everything that graces undecorated porcelain in the form of patterns, ornamentation or colours is decor. This progresses from simple decor elements such as a logo, a line or a coloured band and culminates in flamboyant centre-to-rim decors. Then again, there are vastly differing looks within this broad spectrum.

Moreover, for us, all decors fulfil a task. They must awaken emotions, be a part of, complement or underline the respective ambience, or add a perfect touch to a truly special occasion.

White decors rank around finest porcelain with particular elegance.

As in the case of the subtle white bamboo leaves of the Tanakae decor. Lying gently on the broad rim of the saucer from the Pure Style collection, their slightly glittery structure is reminiscent of crystals.

Delicate lace in the form of intertwined, nostalgic blossoms takes the rims of plates and flatware with Lace decor into its possession.

The underlying grey creates a shading effect that enhances the vivid nature of the relief.

can also be playfully romantic in the details. Anyone not wishing to rely exclusively on lace can combine plain, smooth porcelain surfaces with decorated elements.

The blossom in relief on the rims is more clearly highlighted in combination with undecorated premium porcelain.

Another fine example of mixing & matching with Tafelstern.

The Mosaic decor seams to float airily on the moderately broad rims of the Contour collection.

Its filigree ornamentation sets the scene for this porcelain in perfect style.

Snow decor utilises the effect of light, hemispherical indentations. These create exciting reflections according to how light falls on the pieces.

Animation decor lends the broad rims a lively structure. Delicate lines of varying thickness lie lightly on the rims of the plates.

can also be created by the combination of accessories with subtly restrained decors.

In Moving Flora, floral elements accentuate the pieces of the Contour porcelain collection.
